Ondrej Duda

The Premier League’s basement club, Norwich City, have completed the signing of Ondrej Duda on loan from Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. The news comes just a day after the Canaries’ heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United which, after the other results this weekend, leaves them eight points adrift of safety.

International Experience

Since his international debut for Slovakia in 2014, Duda has gone on to make 35 appearances for his country. He was part of their squad for EURO 2016 and was the goalscorer in his country’s 2-1 defeat to Wales in the group stage of the tournament.

He was also on the scoresheet in Slovakia’s 3-0 win over Malta in the 2018 World Cup qualifying matches.

Club Career

Ondrej Duda started his career with Kosice in his home country of Slovakia, where he made 33 appearances. He moved to Polish side Legia Warsaw in 2014, where he stayed for two years before being snapped up by Hertha.

In the 2018/19 season with the Bundesliga side, he scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 32 league games.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Norwich club website, Duda said: “I spoke with the coach [Daniel Farke] a few days ago about the possibility to come here and in the end, I decided I want to come here. I wanted to decide fast and right and I’m happy to be here.

“The main reasons are it’s a nice club, the league and my situation at my ex-club. It was the reason why I wanted to change club.

“He was just honest with me. He told me what was going on here and he told me everything about Norwich. When we talked, it was clear that I wanted to come here.

“I’m going to do my best, but first of all, I need to get into match rhythm and we will see. I hope we are going to take some points, step-by-step. In the end, hopefully everyone will be happy.”
