Middlesbrough hope to reignite their Sky Bet Championship campaign with the loan signing of Lukas Nmecha.

Season-Long Loan

Nmecha joins Middlesbrough in the second-tier until the end of the season.

The Germany Under-21 international has spent the first part of the season on loan with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.

He also spent last season out on loan, featuring for Preston in the Championship with whom he made 38 appearances and scored four goals.

After tying the young forward down until the end of the season, Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate said: “We’re delighted to bring Lukas to the club. He is a terrific young player who has the benefit of a year’s experience of Championship football.

“He is another young, hungry player of real quality and it’s great that we’ve been able to get him.

“In Lukas and Patrick we have signed two very good players, and we’ve been able to bring them in early in the transfer window which is a real bonus.”

Second Boro Signing of the Window

Nmecha follows in the footsteps of Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts in joining Boro on loan.

Since joining City, Roberts has found most of his playing opportunities come while out on loan.

Most recently he was with Norwich City; however, the deal proved not to be fruitful as he made just four appearances in six months.

Middlesbrough have seen an upturn in form in recent weeks, and the arrival of Patrick Roberts will be a welcome boost at the Riverside.

Jonathan Woodgate has managed to turn his fortunes around after looking destined for the sack.

His side have won their last four games, conceding just once, and have just one defeat in their last seven games.
