Ipswich Town boss Paul Lambert has signed a new contract at Portman Road until the summer of 2025.

Paul Lambert Commits to Ipswich Town Until 2025

Four-Year Extension

Lambert took over the reins at Portman Road in October 2018 and had 18 months remaining on his existing deal; however, the Scotsman has put pen to paper on a bumper new contract.

The announcements comes off the back of a disappointing 5-3 defeat to Lincoln City on Saturday.

Following the Boxing Day draw with Gillingham, Lambert confusingly suggested his time in Suffolk was in the balance; although no officials at the club had seemingly added evidence to his suggestions.

The former Norwich boss said at the time: “Listen, if they want to go and employ another manager – nae problem – I’ll go. It’s not a problem for me to go. I’ll leave tomorrow, I’ll leave the next day. It’s not a problem.

“Ipswich Town is the most important thing. Not me. Ipswich Town is the most important thing. I’ll go.”

In a statement released by the club, owner Marcus Evans said: “Football management is a precarious business and I have stated many times the importance of having a long term vision which is executed by a management team who are confident that they will be given time to continually improve the performance and quality of the squad.

“The coaching group led by the manager have done a fantastic job in turning a fragile environment – following last season’s relegation – into one where we have a mental expectation to win every game.”

Evans: The Coaching Group Have Done a Fantastic Job

On Lambert’s impact at Town, Evans added: “The coaching group led by the manager have done a fantastic job in turning a fragile environment – following last season’s relegation – into one where we have a mental expectation to win every game.”

He continued: “Paul has developed a strong squad and has been a catalyst in the Club’s re-engagement with fans, including playing a role in helping to bring new supporters to Portman Road. I am therefore pleased to announce that Paul and I reached agreement last month to extend his current deal for an additional four years and we are now able to officially announce the new contract.

Andy Warren of the East Anglia Daily Times claims Town have had the deal agreed for a number of weeks; although a delay had been present due to ongoing discussions with Lambert’s coaching staff.

Town travel to Wycombe Wanderers looking to bounce-back from their poor form today (Wednesday, 1 January 2020).
