Aiden McGeady has been reportedly told he can leave the club in January. The Sunderland Echo this morning reported that due to a training ground incident, McGeady will not feature this weekend and can leave the club.

Aiden McGeady On Transfer List Sunderland

In news that will shock many Sunderland supporters, star winger Aiden McGeady is set to depart the Stadium of Light. The 33-year-old was the Black Cats top performer last season as the club narrowly missed out on promotion. The former Everton and Celtic man signed a new contract this year to keep him at Sunderland until the end of next season. However, it now appears that the Republic of Ireland international will depart in the transfer window.

Training Ground Incident

It has been reported that the decision to allow McGeady to leave is due to a training ground incident. The exact nature of the incident has yet to emerge. However, due to the times we live in, speculation on social media has been rife with stories as to want happened at the Academy of Light.

Aiden McGeady Has Struggled for Form

After last season’s performances, many supporters hoped to see the same this term from the winger. Injuries during pre-season did not help; however, his form so far is not close to what fans are used to seeing. The winger has been in and out of the team and was an unused substitute last weekend as Sunderland fell to a defeat at Gillingham.

Parkinson Under Pressure

New Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson is already under increasing pressure at the Stadium of Light. Since arriving to take over from the sacked Jack Ross, results and performances have been in decline. Eight defeats in the 12 games he has been in charge has made many fans question his appointment. At this stage, training ground incidents which lead to a player being told he can leave is not what is needed by Parkinson or the club.
