Informal Talks Between Everton and Unai Emery

Sky Sports are reporting that Everton have held informal talks with Unai Emery about becoming their new manager. The Spaniard was sacked as manager of Arsenal following a string of poor results.

Meanwhile, Everton have been without a manager since December 5, after sacking manager Marco Silva for similar circumstances to Emery. The Toffees’ poor performances culminated in a humiliating 5-2 defeat to rivals Liverpool.

Everton are wanting to act quickly in appointing a new manager in a bid to help them rise up the table. Their recent 3-1 win over Chelsea saw them move up the table into 14th.

However, it appears the same cannot be said for Unai Emery. The Spaniard wants to take more time out to think about his next job in management.

Who are the Other Candidates for the Everton Job?

Shanghai SIPG manager Vitor Pereira is thought to be the current favourite for the vacant managerial job at Goodison Park. The 51-year-old has impressed the Everton owners in the past, and as a result, they are keen to speak to him.

Pereira is not the only candidate, however. The Toffees shortlist includes former manager David Moyes, whose return may be on the cards in a short-term capacity. Furthermore, they are also keen on Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti and Eddie Howe, but the former two seem unlikely.

Current caretaker Duncan Ferguson is also a candidate, although his lack of experience may put off the Everton board appointing him full-time. This is despite overseeing their 3-1 victory against Chelsea.
