Poor Start to the Season for Marco Silva

After spending more than £100 million in the summer transfer window, expectations were high this season for Marco Silva and Everton. The Portuguese manager made Andre Gomes a permanent signing, as well bringing in Alex Iwobi from Arsenal.

However, their form so far this season has not mirrored the money spent during the summer. They have just four wins from 15 Premier League games this season and currently sit in the relegation zone.

It is a stark contrast to his first season in charge at Goodison Park. The Toffees finished eighth with 54 points, three points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers. They finished the season with just one defeat in their last eight games, including a 4-0 thumping of Manchester United.

Quest for Yet Another Manager Begins

Since the departure of David Moyes in 2013, Everton have had six managers, including two stints by David Unsworth as caretaker manager.

As a result, of Marco Silva’s sacking, Everton are now looking for their seventh manager in six years to take the helm at Goodison Park.

It is clear that they are not finding the right formula. Managers are struggling to deal with Everton’s aims of obtaining a place in the UEFA Europa League. As a result, they are continually spending high amounts of money on transfers with very little reward.

Who Next For Everton?

A short-term fix could be the answer to Everton’s problems. A manager with experience at the highest level should be the aim. However, there are very few experienced managers that are out of work currently. As a result, they may want to take their time in their search.
