Arsenal Transfer Rumours

The January transfer window opens in less than two months and Arsenal transfer rumours are now generating some momentum. With a leaky defence, the club will want to use the window to strengthen their options at the back.

The Gunners have conceded 17 goals already this Premier League season, joint-most in the top nine. With that in mind, Arsenal are now being linked with transfers for Leicester City‘s Caglar Soyuncu and Merih Demiral of Juventus.

Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Club Linked With Defensive Duo

Caglar Soyuncu

Arsenal sit eight points off of the top four a the time of writing and have fallen short of expectations to this point in the season. Leicester, meanwhile, have seemingly punched above their weight and sit second in the table.

One reason for that is their stellar defence. Despite seeing Harry Maguire depart in the summer, the Foxes have allowed the fewest goals in the entire league with eight. Caglar Soyuncu has seamlessly replaced Maguire alongside Jonny Evans at the back, earning plaudits along the way.

Arsenal considered a move for the player two summers ago, while he was at Freiburg. They may have a case of buyer’s remorse and ESPN reports that the board are again considering a move for Soyuncu and have dispatched scouts to watch him while on international break with Turkey.

Merih Demiral

Caglar Soyuncu’s Turkey teammate is also on Arsenal’s radar. Merih Demiral has only featured once across all competitions for new manager Maurizio Sarri and seems surplus to requirements at Juventus.

Leonardo Bonucci and Matthijs de Ligt have gotten the lion’s share of playtime at the club and Tuttosport reports that the Gunners could attempt to lure Demiral away.

The Old Lady paid €18 million to bring the former Sassuolo defender to the club only this past summer. Only six months before that, the player transferred to Italy from Alanyaspor in his native Turkey.

AC Milan are long-time admirers of the player as well and could rival Arsenal of Merih Demiral in January. Manchester United, sitting seventh in the table and one point behind the Gunners, are also monitoring the defender.
