Mesut Ozil, Arsenal Facing Huge Battle Against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup

Arsenal Liverpool

Arsenal have already played Liverpool once this season. That match at Anfield finished with a comfortable 3-1 victory for the hosts and Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash looks like it will be more of the same for these two sides. That is even despite the fact that Mesut Ozil is in line to play for the Gunners.

Carabao Cup: Liverpool v Arsenal Preview

Team News

Arsenal have just one player unfit to feature against Liverpool, Reiss Nelson. The young winger is out with a left knee injury incurred during the win over Standard Liege in the Europa League.

The club confirms he will not return to training until sometime in November. Despite him being the only absentee, there are doubts over a couple of other players. Specifically, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil.

The Arsenal captain acted out on Sunday during his side’s 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. Many now call for the Swiss international to get dropped competely from Unai Emery’s plans, or at least be relieved of the captaincy.

Mesut Ozil hasn’t featured since the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the same competition in September. Emery says Ozil will travel and has the chance to play.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp will have a pair of absences to deal with. Joel Matip is still out with a knee issue and will not play for Liverpool against Arsenal. Xherdan Shaqiri will also miss out with a calf problem.

However, the Reds have confirmed that Mohamed Salah is fit to feature after coming off late against Tottenham Hotspur.

Prediction

Arsenal are a club in seeming crisis at the moment, while Liverpool are flying high at the top of the Premier League. The cup competitions can spring a few surprises on the unsuspecting fan, however, it doesn’t look like there will be any surprises at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Gunners are weak defensively, seem in disunity as a squad and are even struggling to create scoring opportunities at the moment. On the other hand, the Reds seem to always find a way to win so far this season.

There is, therefore, no reason to think that this match will turn out any differently than the last.
