REPORT: Leeds United Challenge Juventus And Atletico Madrid For West Brom Defender

Leeds United will compete against European giants Juventus and Atletico Madrid to sign West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson.

The trio are keeping close tabs on the defender according to reports from The Sun and Football Insider.

Ferguson, 19, has continually performed to a high standard under Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns this season.

The Athletic (via the Sun) claim that Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus are one of a number clubs leading the interest.

Joining the overseas interest are Atletico Madrid and Marseille.

The European trio join a plethora of English clubs, including Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Leeds United, who are chasing the teenager.

Ferguson joined West Brom aged eight and has progressed through the academy ranks at a rapid rate.

The 19-year-old made his first-team debut in August against Nottingham Forest.

He provided an assist in the 2-1 win over the Reds.

The England under-19 international has started eleven of the Baggies’ 12 matches this season.

It is understood that Ferguson is content on staying at the Hawthorns; however, the defender is yet to agree a new deal beyond his current one which expires this summer.

Championship Interest

In order to obtain Ferguson, Leeds United will have to fight off interest from a number of top-ranking sides.

West Brom currently sit atop the Championship and a transfer to one of Europe’s elite would resign the teenager to Under-23s action.

However, the Whites have the advantage of offering Ferguson regular first-team football.

The Yorkshire side have ambitious aspirations of promotion to the top-flight and challenging among England’s top sides.

Therefore, a move to Elland Road could allow Ferguson to develop as a player as well as become part of a long-term project which could lead to him performing at the highest level.
