The Concerns

After speculation that Zaha was looking to leave Crystal Palace during the summer, there were concerns as to how he would react after not sealing a move.

There has always been intense pressure on the 26-year-old at Selhurst Park. He is the star man, the first player you think of when you think of Crystal Palace, the player that makes Roy Hodgson’s side tick. However, pressure increased for him to still give his all to Palace despite not being granted a move.

Speaking the day after the summer transfer deadline day, Roy Hodgson expressed concerns about the winger, saying: “I can’t say to you that he’s delighted with the situation because it’s not the outcome that he wanted.”

As a result, there was anxious support for the winger. However, now, he is showing that the support is paying off.

Performances Improving

One assist does not tell the entire story of his season. The winger is returning to his former self and is proving a tricky customer for defenders to deal with.

During their 2-1 victory over West Ham United, Zaha was involved in numerous attacks, as well as creating several chances for Jordan Ayew. His trickery and pace was proving tough to deal with for the Hammers full-backs – and they won’t be the last to suffer from it either.

Against Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, it was similar. Chances created, man-marked and hacked down at every opportunity. Zaha is the epitome of being a defender’s worst nightmare.

Consistency Needed for Wilfried Zaha in Order for a Chance to Move Away From Crystal Palace

Roy Hodgson knows that he won’t be able to keep his prized possession for much longer. His winger is a wanted man, and if the right offer is received, he will be heading for the exit at Selhurst Park.

However, offers will only start flooding in if he continues this good run of form. Champions League clubs – which is the Ivorian’s ambition – will only pursue him if he is consistent and performing at his best. If not, then Zaha may find it difficult to pursue his ambition.
