Manchester City Hit Watford For Eight
How does a club bounce back from a surprise 3-2 defeat to Norwich City? According to the champions, it is by beating Watford by eight goals to nil.
Manchester City tore apart Watford in the opening 20 minutes off the game at the Etihad. They were 1-0 up inside the opening minute, as Kevin De Bruyne found David Silva at the back post who then tapped into the empty net.
The next 17 minutes saw an onslaught of four goals. Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez and Nicolas Otamendi all contributed to the demolition, while Bernardo Silva registered the first of his hat-trick.
Watford’s afternoon only got worse in the second half. City – even five goals ahead – still went on the attack. Bernardo Silva rounded off his hat-trick within the opening 15 minutes off the second half, before Kevin De Bruyne made it 8-0 with five minutes remaining.
Liverpool Edge Chelsea In End-to-End Game At Stamford Bridge
As a result of Manchester City’s emphatic victory, Liverpool were back to being just two points ahead of their rivals. However, they extended it back to five points as they edged Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
It was Liverpool who opened the scoring first. Mohammed Salah laid the ball off to Trent Alexander-Arnold after a pre-planned free-kick, before the right-back hammered home to make it 1-0.
Chelsea, though, were not fazed and thought they had equalised through Cesar Azpilicueta. The right-back found himself in front of goal, and following a goalmouth scramble, he nudged it home. However, VAR concluded that Mason Mount was to be offside during the buildup and ruled out the Spaniard’s goal.
Three minutes later and Azpilicueta had turned victim. He gave away a free-kick, which then resulted in Roberto Firmino heading home to make it 2-0.
Frank Lampard’s side quest for a goal twisted and turned, as Chelsea gradually pushed further forward. In the 71st minute the made it 2-1, as N’Golo Kante – on his return to the line-up – completed a swooping run by firing home into the top-right corner past a helpless Adrian.
However, that was that for the action, as Liverpool held off Chelsea for a vital three points.
