Union Berlin Secure First Ever Bundesliga Point

Union Berlin Point

Union Berlin picked up their first-ever Bundesliga point as Die Eisernen scored late on during a 1-1 draw at Augsburg. Thousands of fans travelled over six hours from the German capital and witnessed their side bounce back from last weeks 4-0 home defeat to RB Leipzig.

Union Berlin Get First Bundesliga Point

Die Eisernen Pick Up One on the Road

There was a lot of hype surrounding Union Berlin’s debut Bundesliga match last weekend, but it didn’t go to plan as they lost heavily at home to RB Leipzig, and they welcome Borussia Dortmund next week in what will be another tricky fixture.

But, on the road, Die Eisernen have picked up their first point of the new season. Despite falling behind and going down to ten men late on, Union rescued a point.

Ruben Vargas gave the hosts the lead, who themselves were looking for a first win this season, but Sebastian Andersson netted the visitors’ first-ever top-flight goal to earn a point.

Both sides were poor defensively last time out, with Augsburg conceding five at Dortmund while Union let in four at home, and the first half was a cagey affair with both sides focusing on defence.

The second half saw aides up the tempo. Augsburg made the breakthrough when Vargas tucked home from the cross, but second-half substitute Andersson netted their first-ever top-flight goal. But, shortly after, Kevin Schlotterbeck was dismissed for a reckless foul. But, Union held on to claim their first top-flight point.

Upcoming Fixtures for Union Berlin

Die Eisernen face two home fixtures against Dortmund and Werder Bremen. Dortmund have won their opening two Bundesliga fixtures, scoring eight goals, whilst Werder are yet to register a point this campaign.

Union then travel to Bayer Leverkusen, another side that have won their opening two games, before welcoming Eintracht Frankfurt to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei
