Tottenham Hotspur Ready to Pile Pressure on Steve Bruce and Newcastle United

Steve Bruce

Newcastle United travel to North London with Tottenham Hotspur ready to add to their woes. Steve Bruce takes his new club to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon looking to pick up their first points of the season. An opening defeat to Arsenal was followed by an abject performance away to Premier League new boys Norwich City.

Last time out, Tottenham Hotspur managed a draw at the Etihad against Manchester City with more than just a little bit of luck on their side and VAR once more being their man of the match.

Steve Bruce Woes Set to Continue as Tottenham Ready to Deliver More Misery

Tottenham Ready to Prey on Steve Bruce and Newcastle Frailties

Tottenham worked hard for a point against last season’s champions, Manchester City, and it wasn’t a pretty performance. All teams get some luck and Tottenham never gave up the fight despite facing 30 shots when they only had three. The result is all that mattered and Spurs’ three shots yielded two goals as did City’s 30. City were kept out by last-ditch defending, Hugo Lloris on form and a correct VAR decision.

Newcastle United may find themselves on the end of a barrage of Spurs’ attacks this coming Sunday. With the incredible atmosphere of the new stadium and Newcastle already looking like a team heading for relegation, Mauricio Pochettino’s men will surely be ready to pounce on their prey.

Newcastle Team News

Joelinton and Dwight Gayle could feature for Newcastle but DeAndre Yedlin and Jack Colback are some way away from regaining match fitness. Andy Carrol is still not fully fit and awaits his return for his boyhood team. With injuries and confidence low, Steve Bruce has a tough task to raise his players for this match.

Tottenham Team News

Giovani Lo Celso is still some way from being ready to start for Tottenham according to Pochettino speaking to Football London, but will play some part from the bench:

“I think Lo Celso is a situation that is not going to be easy. He was in extended holidays after the Copa America, he didn’t have a proper pre-season and didn’t train too much. Then signed for us after a week without training. He’s training well but is still so far away from what we expect from him.”

Kyle Walker-Peters had a daunting task up against Raheem Sterling at the Etihad but grew into the game and is likely to retain his place. With Arsenal coming up for Tottenham, Danny Rose may make way for Ben Davies in the starting 11.

The positive news for Tottenham is the return from suspension of Son Heung-Min. In the opening two fixtures, his skill and pace have been missed and with Dele Alli doubtful, may start his first game of the season.

Lucas Moura grabbed the headlines at the Etihad with a goal inside 19 seconds of coming on and will be pushing to start against Newcastle. Tanguy N’Dombele has settled well and looks to carry on his partnership with Moussa Sissoko in the midfield.

Predictions

Tottenham will play better than they did against Manchester City and possibly not gain points. In front of their home fans, with Son back and Newcastle looking like a club in deep crisis as has become the norm, Tottenham should take three points here and condemn more pressure upon Steve Bruce, who must already be thinking he should have stayed in South Yorkshire.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 Newcastle United
