EFL League One Review: Matchweek 3

Welcome back to Last Word On Football’s League One review. This week, a young side were humbled but showed a lot of pride, a newly promoted side continue to fly high, and of course late drama, all in the EFL League One.

EFL League One Review: Matchweek 3

Sunderland Come from Behind

In the EFL League One early kick-off, Sunderland came from behind to beat Portsmouth. Marcus Harness put Pompey in front at the Stadium of Light. However, Jordan Wills equalised just five minutes later making it 1-1.

Then, six minutes before half-time, Chris Maguire scored the game’s winner for the Black Cats, as they beat Portsmouth 2-1. That was Sunderland’s first win this season, and Portsmouth’s second defeat.

While it remains early days, one would assume both sides will be up there once again come the end of the season.

Lincoln City Top of EFL League One

It’s been a dream start to life in League One for Lincoln City. Promoted from League Two last season, their momentum doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime too soon.

Danny Cowley’s side ran riot as they beat Southend United 4-0 at Sincil Bank on Saturday, as they now sit top of the league.

Jason Shackell and Harry Toffolo scored the Imps’ first-half goals. Then, Tyler Walker converted a penalty in the 48th minute to add a third, and finally Bruno Andrade made it 4-0 with nine minutes to play.

Bolton Taken Apart but Hold Heads High

Another week, more misery for Bolton Wanderers. They were thumped 5-0 by Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park but, despite the scoreline, the fans, players and staff can continue to be proud.

Ollie Banks, Morgan Ferrier scored twice, Conor Jennings and Stefan Payne all contributed to Rovers five goals.

The Trotters remain rotted to 23rd with -11 points, due to Bury not playing a single game yet this season.
