Preview: Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Two

How was gameweek one for everyone? Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Two gives every FPL manager the chance to build on a great opening week or recover from a poor start to the season. This article looks ahead to gameweek two with some tips and advice.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek Two Picks

There is a tendency to want to make wholesale changes to the squad after a poor week. However, one must exercise caution before confirming any transfer. Remember, only one free transfer is provided each week. Giving up four points just to make an extra transfer at this early stage is not recommended. The season is long and if the players you have picked are starting for their sides, maybe they will perform better in the future. Patience and smartness are key to FPL success. Luck also plays a major part. Just ask the owners of Chris Wood. The New Zealand and Burnley striker had a goal disallowed by VAR and was close to scoring on a few other occasions but ended up with just two points. His strike partner Ashley Barnes bagged 13 points which added to the misery.

Goalkeepers

With the injury to Alisson, many FPL managers have been forced to make a transfer. In fact, the Brazillian was the most selected goalkeeper in the game. The logical choice to replace him would be Ederson (£6.0) from Manchester City. Adrián (£4.5) could be a short-term solution as well considering the kind fixtures coming up for Liverpool. Jordan Pickford (£5.5) is a good candidate as well.

Mathew Ryan (£4.5) had an outstanding game at Watford, providing nine points. He now has two home games coming up. Tom Heaton (£4.5) could be a decent option as well. Nick Pope (£4.5) did well last week but now has a difficult away trip to Arsenal. Tim Krul (£4.5) could be an interesting option at home to his former side Newcastle United.

Defenders

Brighton & Hove Albion defenders could be considered as they have back-to-back home games coming up. Lewis Dunk (£4.5) picked up 11 points on gameweek one. Martín Montoya and Shane Duffy (£4.5) are also decent options.

Arsenal picked up a rare away clean sheet last week. They are at home to Burnley this week. The Clarets are not an easy side to play against and it won’t be easy for the Gunners. However, one could make a case for picking Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£5.0). He looked good going forward last week and provided the assist for the winning goal.

Everton defenders should do alright this week against Watford. Lucas Digne (£6.0) and Seamus Coleman (£5.5) should get more opportunities to bomb forward at home.

Liverpool will fancy themselves away at Southampton. Many of their players know the stadium well, especially Virgil van Dijk (£6.5). Andrew Robertson (£7.0) did not provide the goods last week but he can hurt the Saints this week. Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0) got an assist but was a bit suspect at the back. He was replaced by Joe Gomez (£5.5) at right-back in the UEFA Super Cup; something to keep an eye on.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£12.5) and Raheem Sterling (£12.1) are expected to do well this week also. Bernardo Silva (£8.0) was not used last week and Riyad Mahrez (£8.5) was impressive in his stead. As Manchester City are facing Tottenham Hotspur this week, it might be better to avoid them both. Sadio Mané (£11.5) should be back against his old side for Liverpool.

Anthony Martial (£7.6) played up front last week and looked good. Wolverhampton Wanderers away is not an easy fixture but he could still do well.

Aston Villa and Norwich City both will have their first home fixtures back in the Premier League. It will be special for both sides. John McGinn (£5.5), Jack Grealish (£6.0), and Emiliano Buendía (£6.0) might be considered. Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser (£7.5) should not be ignored also.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (£8.0) and Richarlison (£8.0) could do well this week on their first home fixture. Richarlison will be against his former side so should be fired up for this one.

Leicester City’s three midfield options Ayoze Pérez (£6.5), James Maddison (£7.0), and Youri Tielemans (£6.5) could hurt Chelsea this week.

Strikers

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.0) is the best choice this week on paper. He should score at home to Burnley.

Teemu Pukki (£6.5) could be a decent option. Norwich City attacked Liverpool at Anfield so one can assume an attacking style of play. The Canaries will go at Newcastle United‘s defence and Pukki will be the man expected to provide the goals.

Callum Wilson (£8.0) might hurt Aston Villa this week. Bournemouth can counter with pace and if Aston Villa attack them, the chance is there for the likes of Wilson and Joshua King (£6.5) to shine.

Jamie Vardy (£9.0) is someone that can hurt Chelsea’s defence considering the attacking style Frank Lampard has used.
