Last Season

Last season was Sawyers’ third as a Brentford player. He made 45 appearances, failing to score. However, the club captain did register six assists.

The Saint Kitts and Nevis international proved a solid all-round midfielder at Griffin Park last season. Defensively, he made 1.3 tackles per game; while in attack he made 1.6 shots per game.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official West Brom website, Sawyers said: “It’s been a long time coming and I feel like I have unfinished business.

“This is the first team that I have always wanted to play for and I’m delighted I’m now going to get that chance.

“I left the club when I was just a boy with a lot of potential. But I am coming back as a man who has matured as a player.

“It looks to me that we are assembling a strong group of players and I hope to add to that.”

How Will Sawyers Fit in at West Brom for Their Promotion Bid?

As Sawyers hinted at during his interview, West Brom will be vying for promotion this season in their second season in the Championship following relegation from the Premier League.

The Baggies have seen a number of players leave The Hawthorns so far this summer. As a result, he may be able to cement a position in the first team under new manager Slaven Bilic.

However, the 27-year-old may find it tough to begin with due to a number of players able to operate in the centre of midfield. Fellow new arrival Filip Krovinovic is likely to begin the season in attacking midfielder, while Jake Livermore is likely to be one of two defensive midfielders.
