REPORT: Juventus Reject Tottenham Hotspur Opening Bid for Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala transfer rumours

Juventus have rejected Tottenham Hotspur’s initial bid of £45 million for forward Paulo Dybala, according to Italian outlet La Stampa. Reports emerged earlier this week that Spurs were interested in bringing the Argentine to the club to partner Harry Kane up-front as they look to continue the momentum from last season that saw the side reach the Champions League final.

Where He Would Fit In

Dybala would obviously not be a replacement for the star man Kane. His importance to Spurs is far too deep and replacing him is surely the last thing on Mauricio Pochettino’s mind.

The signing, though, would signal a huge next step for Spurs as they look to maintain their place among the top sides in Europe. If they can match Juventus’ valuation, which is believed to be £80 million, and convince Dybala to swap Italy for North London, Spurs’ transformation will be well underway.

If they pulled it off, he would likely be deployed either behind or to the right of Kane. This could mean that Dele Alli is pushed back into a more central role rather than playing further up the field, or Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura could either be forced into new positions to accommodate Dybala or make do with a marginally lesser role in the team.

Spurs signing Dybala could also spell the end for Erik Lamela at the club. With Son, Alli, Moura, Christian Eriksen and, after returning from his loan next season, Jack Clarke, as well as Dybala himself, all able to fill that position, they also seem to be better placed to perform at Champions League level – particularly in the knockout stages, somewhere where Spurs will now want to become regulars after last season’s exploits.
