Oxford United have signed Chris Cadden from Columbus Crew on a season-long loan deal. The 22 year old arrives at the Kassam Stadium follows in the footsteps of his former teammate Alex Gorrin.

Cadden to Add to U’s Game
Chris Cadden has followed midfielder Alex Gorrin to Oxford after the U’s agreed to take the playmaker on a season-long loan deal from Columbus Crew.
The 22-year-old had previously made 139 appearances for Scottish Premier League side Motherwell; however, he signed for the Ohio club after his Well contract ended.
Cadden featured at right-back for Well early on last season; however, he can play both centrally and on the right of midfield.
In 2017, the U’s had a £450,000 bid rejected by Motherwell for the then 20-year-old. This time a compensation deal of around £270,000 has been agreed; it looks like good business for Robinson’s side.

In June, Karl Robinson told the Oxford Mail: “We’ve made a bid and it has been accepted. I’ve spoken to the player twice, we’d love to bring him in.
“There’s three other clubs and we’ve just got to wait and see which one he decides to choose and that’s where we’re at right now.
“The fact is he’s a free transfer, it’s compensation.
“We’ve met the compensation laws and we’ve not commented on anything, so this is everybody else speaking about it.
“We’re now just saying ‘these are the facts’ and that’s it, that’s where we sit and we’re just waiting for an answer.”
Uncertainty Ahead Of Signing
It looked certain that Cadden would join the U’s after Motherwell accepted the U’s compensation fee.
It was a long, drawn out saga; however, the U’s have finally got their man ahead of the new season.
Motherwell face missing out on 280,000 euros for Cadden, as MLS sides have not yet been categorised for training fees.
However, Columbus, US Soccer and the MLS are in discussions with Motherwell in order to seek a resolution.
