What Was Said

Speaking to the official Chelsea website, Mount expressed his delight of signing a new contract, saying: “It’s a massively proud moment for myself and my family.

“I joined this club at six years old and it was always my goal to play for the first team one day.

“I’ve been at the club for a long time already and hopefully I’ll stay for a long time to come.”

Furthermore, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia also said: “Mason has come right the way through the Chelsea academy and has always stood out as a fantastic talent and dedicated individual.”

Last Season

Mason Mount spent last season on loan with Chelsea manager Frank Lampard at his former club Derby County. He became a fans’ favourite at Derby, scoring 11 goals and registering five assists. However, it was not enough to help the Rams back to the Premier League, as they lost narrowly to Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final.

His successful campaign saw him earn an England call-up from Gareth Southgate. However, he failed to make an appearance and returned to the Under-21 side for the Under-21 European Championships.

Big Future Ahead At Chelsea

Mount is well-liked by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard. As a result, it is likely that he will feature in and around the first team for the forthcoming 2019/20 campaign.

It remains to be seen who Frank Lampard will favour in midfielder for Chelsea. Last season, Maurizio Sarri often opted for a midfield three of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Alongside Mount, it is likely that several of Chelsea’s youth will see an increase of minutes under their new manager.
