MK Dons to Visit AFC Wimbledon in Carabao Cup

Carabao Cup

MK Dons have been drawn away to AFC Wimbledon in the first round of the 2019/20 Carabao Cup. The draw for the competition was made by former players John Barnes and Ray Parlour at the Morrisons supermarket in Colindale, London. This will be the first time the two sides have played each other since the 2017/18 season after Milton Keynes played last season in League Two.

Past Meetings

The rivalry between these two needs no further explanation. It will be the eighth time the two have faced each other since their first meeting in 2012 – an FA Cup tie which MK won 2-1.

By the time the pair of league fixtures between the two has been played at the end of the season, the number of meetings will be into double figures.

After the opening meeting in 2012, a 2014 league cup tie saw AFC Wimbledon defeated 3-1 at Stadium MK while, later in that season, they finally got their revenge when a late goal from Adebayo AKinfenwa handed them a 3-2 success in a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fixture.

MK then secured a 1-0 victory in the first league match between the two sides when Dean Bowditch’s penalty was enough to separate them, but AFC Wimbledon again got their own back when they recorded their first home victory over the side.

Milton Keynes then won on enemy territory for the first time in the 2017/18 season, owing greatly to Lee Nicholls’ penalty save, before a goalless draw was played out at Stadium MK later that campaign.
