Jonny Castro Otto

Wolverhampton Wanderers have spent £18 million to secure the permanent signing of Jonny Castro Otto from Atletico Madrid.

The player joined the Midlands club in the summer on an initial loan deal and has been taken to the hearts of the fans. The 24-year-old has impressed and the club were very keen to get this deal done.

Jonny Castro Otto Makes Wolves Deal Permanent

Otto’s journey to Wolves has been a little strange. He signed for Atletico Madrid in July of 2018 and was loaned to Wolve,s where he has remained ever since, culminating in today’s deadline day signing for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £18 million.

The player felt that he settled quickly in the country, as well as his family; something that is always important when trying to secure deals for foreign players who, if unsettled, can lose form and confidence on the pitch. There have been no such issues for Jonny Otto.

Versatile

Otto can play at either right-back or left-back and is comfortable in either role. There was concern over the player’s fitness when he injured knee ligaments playing for his country. It was his performances in Wolves start to the 2018/19 Premier League season that gained him recognition from his Country, Spain.

Powers of Recovery

It was that knee injury that looked to have brought his time at Wolves to an end, with the diagnosis being that he would be out until the end of the season. Remarkably, the player was back within weeks rather than months and continues to impress for Wolves and looks likely to be a star in Spain’s national team for years to come.

Wolves are delighted to have their man as they look to cement a top half finish and; maybe even qualify for next season’s Europa League. With this permanent signing, Wolves have signalled their intent to the rest.
