Samir Nasri will return to the Premier League at the end of his drug ban, having agreed a deal with West Ham.

The French midfielder will be clear to play in the top flight of English football from January 1st following an 18-month ban after receiving an intravenous treatment at a Los Angeles clinic in breach of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s rules.

Samir Nasri completes move to West Ham

The 31-year-old midfielder has been free to train with a club since the beginning of November and it was clear that West Ham were eager to bring Nasri into the lineup.

The Frenchman has agreed a short-term contract until the end of the season, with both the Hammers and himself having the option to extend.

Taking the step straight back into the top level after the time out makes the short-term contract a sensible option for both. Nasri is eager to return to the sport he loves, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side taking a minimal risk for the rest of the season.

What Does This Mean For Nasri?

A return to the footballing fold, from which he has been absent for 18 months, playing in the best league in the world for West Ham will give the Frenchman a chance to prove himself again.

Knowing the role of midfield well, Nasri will fit straight into the position and the fight for a starting place brings extra motivation to perform.

Nasri is a talented but temperamental playmaker, which excluded some suitors, as did the wage demand. Having secured the contract with West Ham, the midfielder can officially train again and be ready to start from January.

What Does This Mean For West Ham?

Another midfielder for the Hammers is always a good option. Losing players in mid-season can be bad news so, by signing Nasri, West Ham have ensured they have an experienced and talented back up in the squad.

Before the ban, Nasri could be relied upon up as a regular in squads and he scored regularly. In the last season before failing the drug test, the midfielder made eight appearances and scored two goals.

If Nasri can return to that kind of form and ratio, then West Ham will have gained an exciting addition to their line up.
