Robbie Simpson to Stay at MK Dons For Remainder of Season

Simpson has been used sparingly this season by Tisdale after following his boss from the Grecians along with Ryan Harley and Jordan Moore-Taylor. Harley has struggled with injury since his arrival, while Moore-Taylor has bedded in perfectly, forming solid partnerships with Joe Walsh and Baily Cargill.

The striker was always unlikely to be one of the starters, especially once it transpired that Chuks Aneke would remain with the squad after the summer transfer window. However, he has still managed an impressive 15 appearances, mostly from the bench, and has scored twice.

The first of his goals was an equaliser early in the season in the 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town and the second was a penalty in the 3-0 win over Cheltenham back in October.

Simpson adds something different to the MK Dons attack that they don’t get from their regular forwards. He is big, physical and gets stuck in, the latter of which being something that Aneke could improve on while Kieran Agard and Rhys Healey tend to rely on their pace rather than their strength.

Thoughts From The Boss

Speaking to mkdons.com, Tisdale said: “His sixth-month contract was an acknowledgement of my trust in him but also that he’d only just returned to fitness from a serious ankle injury.

“He was somebody I felt I could use during the early stages of the season and he’s proven to be a valuable member of the dressing room. He’s proven his fitness and he’s done particularly well in the games he’s played in.

“We’re delighted to have him here so we are more than happy for him to continue through until the end of the season.”
