Liverpool Round-Up – August

Perfection! Liverpool are just three games into the 2018/19 Premier League season, but they are leading the pack. An impeccable beginning for the club will have players and fans excited for the coming months as the team starts to get into the fall and winter months. The new signings seem to be fitting in quite well, and Joe Gomez has been fantastic filling in at centre-back. Here is the August Round-Up for Liverpool FC.

Liverpool’s August Round-Up

Game 1: West Ham – Home (4-0)

Starting the season at home is always nice for clubs. It gives the players and fans a familiar setting to get the season started, and often ends in results. This season was no different. Liverpool took West Ham apart and never looked back. Sadio Mane bagged two goals and Mohamed Salah picked up where he left off with one as well. The Hammers came out slow and Liverpool pounced from the first whistle.

Game 2: Crystal Palace – Away (0-2)

Crystal Palace away had the potential to be a nightmare. In season’s past, the game would have given Liverpool real issues and a win was never certain. It was a test for the Reds to prove that their frailty at the back is over with and that they can pick up three points away from home. Virgil van Dijk was a great match-up for Christian Benteke in the air, and Alison had to produce a fantastic save on a free-kick towards the end. The defensive issues seemed to be over with, and besides a few attacks from Palace, Liverpool played soundly.

Game 3: Brighton – Home (1-0)

Brighton at home should have never caused real problems, and the score should not have been this close. The game did not seem out of hand, and the Reds’ front three should have put away at least one more goal. Brighton did sit in and defend well, but that is no reason for Liverpool to have to struggle. Mo Salah did add a second goal of the season for him, but the credit has to go to James Milner for his work to win back the ball.

Upcoming September Games:

9/1 Away – Leicester City

9/15 Away – Tottenham Hotspur

9/22 Home – Southampton

9/29 Away – Chelsea
