Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Not Ready For Manchester City Clash

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur are currently seeking for a stadium to host their Premier League clash against reigning champions Manchester City. Spurs were originally planning on hosting the game in their new ground, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, the opening of the new stadium has been postponed due to “safety concerns” according to the club. This has left Tottenham in a tricky situation. Tottenham had an agreement in place with the FA to play all their home games in Wembley last season.

The club foresaw delays in the summer this agreement was extended into the opening games of this season. However, with further delays to the opening of the ground, has come to the issue of Wembley being pre-booked for an NFL fixture which cannot be moved. This has left Tottenham in a tricky spot.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Will Not Host Manchester City

Twickenham Stadium A Possibility

The Premier League will not allow the match to be played at the Etihad. This is due to the return fixture in April coming in between two City away games. The Premier League does not feel it is fair to ask for the Manchester side to play away from home in three consecutive matchdays at such a pivotal point in the season.

As a result, Tottenham must find an alternative venue in which to host the game. The England Rugby’s home ground is a possible destination. Twickenham Stadium has a capacity of 82,000. It is located approximately 20 miles from the building site of Tottenham’s new stadium.

The entire stadium rebuilding has shown chairman Daniel Levy in a really bad light. This Summer saw Tottenham become the first Premier League side not to make a single signing during the transfer window since its introduction in 2003.

This angered many fans. They viewed it as the club not willing to push on and try to win trophies. Revelations that Levy is the highest paid Premier League chairman, earning more than the Arsenal and Manchester United Chairman’s combined have alongside high season ticket prices for a so far unfinished have really irked the clubs loyal fans with murmurs of “Levy out” increasing in frequency as this debacle unfolds.

The lack of respect the club has shown the fans with news of the stadium leaking well before the club announced the delays have slowly begun turning the Tottenham public against Levy.
