Harry Kane and the August Hoodoo

Harry Kane

In just 153 appearances, Harry Kane has scored 108 Premier League goals. Still only 25-years-old, the Tottenham striker has more than enough time to beat Alan Shearer’s goal-scoring record of 260 Premier League goals.

However, August is not a month favours. The England striker has never scored a goal in the month of August, but will be looking to end that curse before the end of this month.

Harry Kane’s August Hoodoo

August Isn’t Harry Kane’s Month

It’s not too often we hear that Harry Kane has been lacking in goals. Season on season, he has progressively scored more goals and been a fierce competitor for the Golden Boot. But the start of the season is a strange period for the England skipper.

Despite common knowledge of Kane’s August hoodoo, it continues to deceive some, as his final tally at the end of each season would not reflect a striker that takes a month to open his account.

Slow Start Against Newcastle United

Spurs were victorious away to Newcastle United this weekend, winning 2-1. In what was a tough game for Spurs, they managed to come away from St James’ Park with an opening day victory.

For Harry Kane, it was another goalless opening day. However, considering that Kane has only returned to training last Monday, perhaps the striker will need time to adjust and find his form once again and shake off any fatigue he may have from World Cup duty.

But despite not getting on the score sheet, manager Mauricio Pochettino was said to be pleased with his contribution to the game. Speaking to Sky Sports, Pochettino said: “For me, he is in his best form whether he scores or doesn’t score. I don’t have any doubt that he’s in his best form.”

Can the Hoodoo End This Season?

The frustration of signing no players is still ripe for some Spurs fans. But a hard fought opening day win showed a lot of positive signs. But can Harry Kane finally end his August hoodoo to put a spring in Spurs’ step?

Fixtures against Fulham and Manchester United will complete the month of August for Spurs. Both shall provide different challenges, but the contribution from Kane up-top shall be vital if they are to hit the ground running.

For Kane, it will be important to end the hoodoo to make sure that he can set himself for another potentially prolific season.
