MK Dons have completed the signing of Ryan Watson from Barnet. The midfielder will move to Stadium MK on a one-year contract upon the expiration of his deal with Barnet.

Ryan Watson Completes MK Dons Move

Watson becomes the second signing in two days for the Dons and the second of the Paul Tisdale era. Former Exeter City captain Jordan Moore-Taylor made the move to Buckinghamshire yesterday and Watson is the first of the expected many to join him.

Watson came through the youth academy at Everton whilst also playing for Wigan Athletic and Leicester City as a youngster. He made no senior appearances for any of these team, though. His senior debut came in 2014 while on loan at Northampton Town.

Across two different spells, he made 20 appearances for the Cobblers. His first professional goal for them came in the 3-2 Football League Trophy win over Colchester United.

Watson made the move to Barnet at the start of the 2016/17 campaign. During his time at The Hive, he made 52 appearances and scored two goals. In his last season with the Bees, he contributed to six goals – scoring one and assisting five.

In total, the 24-year-old has made 74 senior appearances throughout his career.

“I’m delighted to be here”

Speaking about the move to mkdons.com, Watson said: “I’m delighted to be here. When the manager came in he was interested in me and wanted to sign me – I was made up when I knew the interest was there.

“The set-up of the Club is brilliant and Paul is a manager that I’m excited to work with. The Club has great ambition and it’s down to us work hard and work the way he wants us to. I’m looking forward to the season ahead.”

Manager Paul Tisdale was equally excited to get the deal completed: “He is somebody who we watched while I was manager at Exeter City and there is certainly a lot going for him.

“It’s an opportunity for Ryan – an opportunity for him to prove his ability on a stage here at Stadium MK. I’m looking forward to seeing how he does.”
