Madrid End Pochettino Pursuit, Latest on Wilshere, Kovacic and Verratti

Poch to Stay a Spur

Zinedine Zidane resigned as Real Madrid boss after claiming another Champions League title. Almost immediately, Los Galacticos began their Pochettino pursuit, despite the Tottenham manager signing a five-year contract one week earlier.

However, Madrid will have to look elsewhere, as the BBC report there is no release clause in the new contract which would allow Poch to leave north London. Even if the potential suitor is one Real Madrid.

Florentino Perez will now look to other options, such as German national team manager Joachim Löw. Antonio Conte, who may not be long for his appointment at Chelsea, is also under consideration. Meanwhile, former Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger is a dark horse candidate.

Wilshere to West Ham?

Speaking of the Gunners, they have yet to sign Jack Wilshere, who is out of contract on 1 July, to a new deal. Therefore, new West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini will monitor the situation closely.

The Chilean would be keen on a move for the midfielder should he become available on a free, according to the Daily Star. Jack Wilshere will hold talks with new Arsenal boss Unai Emery this month to try and sort out a new contract.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are not the only club who want the England outcast. Everton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle are all monitoring his situation.

Mateo Kovacic Wants More Minutes

The Croatian joined Real Madrid two and a half years ago but has yet to secure a regular place in the starting XI. Therefore, Mateo Kovacic seeks a move away from the Spanish capital to secure more playtime.

Out of 21 La Liga appearances this past season, Kovacic started just ten times. The player told reporters:

“I believe I’ll play more, whether in Real or somewhere else. Now is the time for me to play. Offers? I am under contract with Real and I wish not to comment on other clubs.”

The likes of Manchester United, Juventus and Tottenham are all reportedly interested.

Verratti to United

Finally, we end this edition of Football Transfer News in the French capital. Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti is linked with a big-money move to Old Trafford.

The Mirror reports Jose Mourinho wants to make the 25-year-old his marquee signing this transfer window. The Parisians apparently quoted the Red Devils a price of £100 million last summer. It is thought that any fee this time around would have to be similar.

If the deal goes through, Verratti would join Brazilian Fred in United’s new-look midfield.
