Ed Upson Departs MK Dons For Bristol Rovers

Ed Upson

MK Dons midfielder Ed Upson will join Bristol Rovers upon the expiry of his contract at Stadium MK. The 28-year-old joined the Dons from Millwall on a free transfer in the summer of 2016.

Ed Upson Makes Bristol Rovers Switch

Upson scored seven goals during his time at MK Dons, making 93 appearances in the process. Off those appearances, 45 came in the abysmal 2017/18 campaign which saw the Dons relegated to League Two.

His best season in front of goal was the latter of the two campaigns he spent with the club. Upson scored four times in the relegation season, with the other three of his seven coming in the 2016/17 campaign.

In his first season, he scored a late consolation in a 2-1 defeat to Bradford City before his brace against Coventry earned the Dons a late victory at the Ricoh Arena. In 2017/18, he opened his account with an excellent driven strike in the 4-1 loss to Blackburn Rovers. He then scored another brace, including a stunning free-kick, in the 4-4 draw with Oldham and capped off his scoring with another drive in the FA Cup win over Hyde United.

“I’m pleased to finally be here”

Speaking about the move to bristolrovers.co.uk, Upson said:

“I’m pleased to finally be here and to have the deal all sorted.

“I met the Manager early in the week and he’s a very ambitious person and I know the club is also very ambitious. I think the mixture of those two things could propel the club into the next division.”

Bristol Rovers manager Darrell Clarke said:

“Ed is someone that I have admired for a number of years.

“He’s a player that has a vast amount of experience at this level and at a higher level also.

“Ed adds healthy competition to the central midfield positions and we are looking forward to having him on board.”
