FTN: Morata, Walker-Peters, and Papastathopoulos Transfer News

Welcome to Football Transfer News from Last Word On Football. We provide you with the latest ins and outs from around the footballing world. Today we bring the latest on Morata, Walker-Peters and Papastathopoulos transfer news.

Álvaro Morata

Juventus want to re-sign Chelsea striker Álvaro Morata this summer with Mario Mandžukić set to leave the Italian club, say Sky Sports. With a very disappointing season perhaps culminating with the striker very upset in a match with Burnley, it appears Morata might not be the only pivotal Blue who may be leaving Stamford Bridge. It will be tough for Chelsea to retain its star players with the club losing ground on the other top clubs in England.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Tottenham have extended the contract of full back Kyle Walker-Peters through 2021. The defender came through Tottenham’s Academy program. The 21-year-old made a statement through the club’s Twitter account: “I am absolutely delighted to sign my new contract. It has been a great year for me and I really do look forward to what the future holds.”

Sokratis Papastathopoulos

That Arsenal are in need of help at centre back is far from a secret. With Lauren Koscielny not expected to return until 2019 and Shkodran Mustafi having just completed a nightmarish season, the Gunners will be in need of bolstering its defence. With younger players such as Calum Chambers, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Rob Holding not yet ready to shoulder the brunt of centre back duties, Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos might just fight the bill. Already having a strong presence of former Dortmund players as well as Head of Recruiting Sven Mislintat having arrived last season, the links to Papastathopoulos make sense. And his relatively inexpensive £13-£17m price tag might fit Arsenal’s apparently small “war chest” perfectly.
