Latest Transfer News on Lemar, M’bappe, Costa, Hart, Sigurdsson

Welcome back to Football Transfer News. The transfer news and rumour mill is a fast-paced smattering of elements of truth mixed up with a whole lot of smoke. Nonetheless, sifting through the mess can be fruitful (sometimes), so let’s take a look at the transfer turnstile that was today.

The Latest Transfer News on Lemar, M’bappe, Costa, Hart, Sigurdsson

Thomas Lemar

According to several publications, Thomas Lemar seems to be staying put for the time being. After the sale of Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea, French club Monaco have reportedly again denied requests from Arsene Wenger. Whether a stall tactic or legitimate decision from the club, the £40m+ offer from The Gunners has not been met favourably. With indecision from Alexis Sanchez and, to a lesser extent, Mesut Ozil, there is growing unrest at the North London club. Wenger has long been an admirer of Lemar, so it’s not out of the question that a further big (or two) will be made for his services, especially with the immediate need to return to Champions League football.

Kylian M’bappe

Arsenal have reported that they are willing to splash the cash on the young Monaco striker, Kylian Mbappe with a reported world-record fee of £123million. The talented Frenchmen has been a hot commodity in the transfer market with plenty of world powerhouses looking to spend big bucks on the promising young star, including Arsenal. With recently acquired striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, Wenger has to deal with the seesaw summer with Alexis Sanchez who may be looking for an exit from the Emirates. Arsenal have plenty of forwards at their disposal like Olivier Giroud, Lucas Pérez, and Theo Walcott, though at least two of the three may be on the move soon.

Diego Costa

Diego Costa was given permission to remain absent from Chelsea’s preseason preparations in the Far East today. The squad departs Monday, but Costa will remain on vacation as a deal away from London is negotiated. Atletico remain the primary suitor, but the fee remains a sticking point. Given Chelsea’s public pursuit of a first team striker, it is only a matter of time until the Spaniard returns to the Vicente Calderon.

Joe Hart

Joe Hart looks set to join West Ham on a season long loan from Manchester City.

City’s initial asking price of around £25m proved to be a barrier to interested parties but The Blues appear to have to reached an agreement which will see the England international move to London on loan, with a view to a permanent transfer at a reduced fee.

Hart’s time at City appeared to be over after Guardiola sent him on loan to Torino last season and brought in Claudio Bravo, but the Chilean struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

This summer Guardiola shunned Hart once again, this time in favour of Ederson Moraes, making the Brazilian the most expensive goalkeeper in British football.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

There is no doubt that Gylfi Sigurdsson played a vital role in Swansea’s survival. However, having rejected Leicester City’s bid of 40 million, Swansea are valuing the Icelandic midfielder at 50 million. Everton have also conveyed a strong interest for Sigurdsson, and having dropped out of the club’s pre-season tour the 27 year-old’s future at Swansea is looking doubtful. With Sigurdsson’s outstanding statistics last season, he is on many Premier League clubs watchlist. A move away from Swansea this summer is looking very likely.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Following the release of Zlatan Ibrahimović from Manchester United, the Swedish striker has been attracting significant interest from MLS clubs. LA Galaxy and new MLS Expansion side Los Angeles FC are front runners to sign the free agent striker, who is still recovering from knee surgery. Should the 35-year-old recover successfully from what was a career threatening injury, the likelihood of him signing for one of these sides is potentially very high. Mino Raiola, the Swede’s agent, has said there will be a ‘big announcement’ regarding his future soon. Ibrahimović, who netted 28 goals for the Red Devil’s before his knee injury in April, may join David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Steven Gerrard on the list of superstars who have played in Los Angeles.
