Hull City have sold centre-back Harry Maguire to Leicester City for a fee rumoured to be around £17,000,000. Both Wes Morgan and Robert Huth are in their mid-thirties and so the ownership at the King Power decided to target an eventual replacement. Maguire has the potential to develop into a real leader in what is already a strong locker room.

Leicester City Add Defensive Reinforcement

The 24 year old Englishman was linked with a number of Premier League clubs before he decided to make the switch to the King Power, but stated that “when I met (Craig Shakespeare) here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club.

(Leicester)’s on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer. You can see that with the structure of the Club, it’s going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity”.

Having signed a five-year deal with his new club, Maguire will be in Leicester until 2022.

The centre-back already has plenty of Premier League experience, as he had featured in both of Hull City’s recent campaigns in the top flight. Something which would have played a big part in Maguire’s decision to join Leicester is the impending 2018 World Cup in Russia. As he will be hoping to increase on his 29 league games of last season and force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

Only a year older than Burnley centre-half Micheal Keane, it was somewhat puzzling that Hull City didn’t receive more interest from top half sides.  A strong, level-headed defender who makes very few mistakes. Leicester will feel much safer playing their counter-attacking football with a reinforced back four.

A dominant aerial threat at both ends of the pitch, Maguire scored three goals in the league this season. He will fit into the mould of goal-scoring defenders already at the club, Huth and Morgan combined for five goals in the 2016/17 campaign.

Maguire had been in Yorkshire since 2014, where he joined from his boyhood club Sheffield United. Who will receive a sizeable fee from their sell on clause put into the sale to Hull three years ago.
