Tottenham’s Trophy Chances

Tottenham's trophy chances depend on Harry Kane's goals, taking Millwall seriously and the return to fitness of Danny Rose.

Tottenham’s Trophy Chances

Spurs still have the potential to win at least one competition this year. They currently remain in the FA Cup with a quarter-final against Millwall. In addition, they are chasing down the 10 point gap between them and Premier League leaders Chelsea.

There is a multitude of factors affecting Tottenham’s trophy chances. Harry Kane’s scoring streak, winning him February Player of the Month, will be vital in keeping his side’s chances alive. In addition, Spurs must not underestimate any team and must be ruthless in attack. Finally, Danny Rose’s return will bolster the defence.

Kane’s Goals

Harry Kane’s spectacular form has really lifted Tottenham’s spirits. He has scored 43 goals in his last 50 Premier League appearances. Such a record boosts his club’s chances of winning some silverware. This season he has proven that he is able to score under pressure in big matches and this will prove important late on in the season. Whilst Chelsea may have a luxurious gap, Spurs are hungrily hunting them down. Kane’s goals are vital in grabbing the much-needed points to help close this gap.

The worry is that Kane’s goals will dry up. Either an injury or lack of form may threaten the squad’s chances of achieving anything this season. This is mainly due to the lack of cover for Kane. An out of favour Vincent Janssen is unlikely to produce the goods, but Heung-Min Son will step up to the plate and has some good technical ability. But, it is questionable as to whether he can lead the line by himself. Thus, Kane really must stay fit and on form.

Ruthless Streak

If Spurs are to lift the FA Cup, they must be ruthless in their treatment of Millwall. Whilst they are League One, no mercy should be shown. Pochettino must put out a full strength side to decimate the Lions in front of the White Hart Lane crowd. The FA Cup is a glorious cup to win and it is important all resources are used to win it. Finishing in the top four is starting to be a less desirable outcome for Spurs fans now. However, fans would rejoice at Spurs smashing and grabbing the FA Cup whilst securing a place in the top three. It is surely time for the club to reap the reward for the recent surge in progress.

Rose’s Return

Danny Rose is a key player at left-back for the club. Whilst Ben Davies is a solid defender, his style of play isn’t as effective as Rose’s. Rose has the explosive pace, the neat dribbling and the ability to get in behind defences. It is this key asset that allows Kane to score his goals, as well as Rose himself on occasion.

Whilst he is bombing down the wing, he is pinning back the opposition full-backs, stifling their chance to retain possession. Both Kyle Walker and Rose are incredibly important to Pochettino’s overall plan. After all, they are the only width providers in the team. Often deployed as wing-backs, they are always paramount in Tottenham’s success. But, defensively, Rose has become tactically astute and will help Spurs to lock down the defence when needed. Thus overall, his return is imperative to the club’s trophy chances.

Verdict

Spurs have every chance of winning a trophy this season. The FA Cup provides the biggest chance if the players take Millwall seriously, but the Premier League isn’t out of reach yet. If Kane keeps scoring, and with the return of Rose, Spurs may well close down the gap. It might yet be the glory glory season for Tottenham Hotspur.
