Peter Pawlett Signs Pre-Contract Agreement with MK Dons

The England-born midfielder has played in Scotland for all of his career. After moving to Aberdeenshire at the age of seven, he has made over 150 professional appearances for the side, scoring 16 goals along the way. He also made nine appearances in a loan spell at St. Johnstone during the 2012-13 season.

Pawlett has represented Scotland at two international levels. He made one appearance for the U-19 team in 2009. He then went on to make seven appearances for the U-21 side between 2011 and 2012, scoring once. On 16th May 2014, Pawlett was called into the senior Scotland squad for the first time. This was for a friendly game against Nigeria, but he did not come on to play.

How does he feel about the move?

Speaking after agreeing his deal, Peter Pawlett said, “I’m delighted to sign for MK Dons. I think it’s the right time in my career to come down to England. As soon as I heard of the interest, I knew this is where I wanted to be. This is a great club with a great stadium and it was a huge attraction for me.”

Dons boss Robbie Neilson said, “I’m looking forward to getting him down here next season. He’s had a really good career in Scotland and played a lot of games at a high level.”

Peter Pawlett was part of the Aberdeen squad that finished runners-up in last season’s Scottish Premier League. The Dons pushed Celtic all the way, before they eventually fell behind by 15 points. Pawlett contributed one league goal that season, as well as scoring once in the Europa League.

The attacking midfielder will definitely have to compete for his place. Chuks Aneke has cemented his role in the squad, as well as Ben Reeves returning from injury. Dean Bowditch has also played in that position a number of times this campaign. Despite this though, it is certainly a positive signing from Robbie Neilson.
