Klopp Confirms Lovren Return; Can to Miss Trip to Stamford Bridge

Jürgen Klopp confirmed on Wednesday that Dejan Lovren will make the squad for its trip to London to battle Chelsea on Friday evening. However, Emre Can will be left out of the line-up.

Lovren missed the clash last weekend with holders Leicester City—one which Klopp’s crew seemed to seize every opportunity. The defender picked up an injury—what was described as a severely swollen and bruised eye—in a collision at Melwood.

In the pre-match press conference ahead of the Friday match, Klopp explained explained:

Klopp told his pre-match press conference at Melwood: “The players who were involved in the last game are, until now, all ready again – plus Dejan. Not the others, for example Emre.”

Can hasn’t featured for Liverpool since the EFL Cup win against Burton Albion in late August. His ankle injury is seen as “mild” and he has returned to training sessions with the first team. That said, he will miss the trip to London.

“Emre is not injured any more, which is good, but now he needs to train and that’s how it is,” Klopp told the press. “He had a difficult pre-season with coming back later than most of the other players then a little injury here and a little problem there. Until now, it was not the best moment but he is still a wonderful player and now we have to make him fit.”

Liverpool’s boss went on to discuss the current situations regarding Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez, Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius:

“That’s what we will do with him, that’s what we will do with Mama [Sakho] and if you want, with Joe Gomez and all the others. Simon [Mignolet] is all good and Loris [Karius] has been in training the whole week now, so all good.”
