Texas Rangers Trade Albert Abreu to Royals

Albert Abreu

The Texas Rangers have traded relief pitcher Albert Abreu to the Kansas City Royals. In return, the Rangers will receive minor league pitcher Yohanse Morel from the Royals. The news came via announcements from both teams on Thursday. Kansas City will make a corresponding roster move once Abreu reports. Meanwhile, with the month of June just getting under way, it seems that the Rangers are looking to provide some pitching depth to their minor league system.

Albert Abreu’s Season Thus Far

Abreu has pitched in seven games so far this season for the Rangers. He doesn’t have a win-loss record yet, and has posted an earned run average of 3.12. Over his seven games, he has pitched 8 2/3 innings. Abreu has struck out nine, and walked 12. He has also hit one batter. He has given up three runs, on four hits. Two of those hits were of the home run variety. It will be very interesting to see how the right-hander will pitch in Kansas City. Perhaps he’ll even pitch more often there.

Busy Couple of Months for Albert Abreu

The Rangers got Albert Abreu from the New York Yankees earlier this year when they sent catcher Jose Trevino to the Bronx. That deal was cemented in the final week leading up to Opening Day. One can’t help but wonder what it must be like to be traded twice in the span of less than three months. A lot must be going through the mind of Albert Abreu. This was also around the time that Texas added catcher Mitch Garver to the catching mix. They got him in a trade with the Minnesota Twins. Judging from this moves, it seems like they were hoping to add a piece to the bullpen as well. It is highly doubtful that the Rangers are done dealing in 2022. It’s also unclear if such moves will come sooner rather than later.
