Mets Spring Training Schedule Breakdown

The updated spring training schedule for the New York Mets is now out. The abbreviated slate consists of 15 games, running from March 19th to April 5th. The following day, the Mets will travel to DC in preparation for Opening Day on April 7th against the Washington Nationals. Coincidentally, the Nats are one of only four teams the Mets will face for the entirety of spring training. As is the case with some other teams this spring, the Mets will not play any split-squad games. Here’s a closer look at the Mets’ exhibition slate.

Mets Spring Training Schedule

Spring training kicks off on Saturday evening for the Mets with a road game against the Nationals. Their first home game in Port St. Lucie will be the next day against the St. Louis Cardinals. In all, the Mets will play Washington four times this spring, and St. Louis three times. As stated before, New York will face only four opponents total this spring in order to stay on the east coast of Florida. Along with the matchups against the Nats and Cards, they will play four games against the division-rival Miami Marlins and four against the Houston Astros.

Despite the limited number of opponents, having two division rivals in the mix should help the Mets get an early look at some of their NL East competition. However, they will have to wait until the regular season to get a look at the defending world champion Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. The preseason slate will also give fans their first opportunity to see players like Max Scherzer, Starling Marte, and Chris Bassitt in Mets uniforms.
