Texas Rangers Shut Out by White Sox

White Sox 8, Rangers 0

ARLINGTON, Texas, September 17 — It was more bad news for the Texas Rangers on Friday night. The start of their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox resulted in an 8–0 shutout in favor of Chicago. Lefty Taylor Hearn got the start for the Rangers. It wasn’t his finest outing. He pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up seven earned runs on eight hits. Hearn walked three, struck out four, and took the loss. He now has a record of 6–5 on the year. Right-hander Dylan Cease got the win for the White Sox (12–7, 4.09 ERA). He tossed five innings, gave up four hits, and struck out ten. He also walked two.

More Trouble in the Fourth

For the second consecutive night, the Texas Rangers gave up a crooked number of runs in the fourth inning. They gave up five to be exact. Before that happened, however, they surrendered one in the top of the first on a sac-fly by Jose Abreu. That scored Tim Anderson. They gave up another run in the top of the second. This happened when Romy Gonzalez doubled in Yoan Moncada. Then came the five-run fourth. It started when Luis Robert hit a double to centerfield.  This scored Billy Hamilton, and for the second time, Anderson.

It seemed like the White Sox were seeing double. That’s all they were hitting, more doubles. In fact, neither team had a home run the entire evening. Next came a double by Abreu that brought in Robert, making it 6–0. Soon after, Eloy Jimenez singled to left field to score Abreu. Their eighth and final run came on, you guessed it, another double. This time it was Cesar Hernandez that stretched it into two. Gonzalez scored on the play.

Up Next

The Texas Rangers certainly have their work cut out for them in this series. The second game is on Saturday at 6:05 PM CDT at Globe Life Field. Righty Spencer Howard (0–4, 7.38 ERA) will start for Texas. On the other side, former Ranger Lance Lynn (10–4, 2.50 ERA) will be on the hill for Chicago.
