Tonight’s episode of IMPACT Wrestling was the go-home show for their upcoming pay-per-view, Emergence. Besides having a stacked match card, it also marked the return of the new IMPACT World Champion, Christian Cage, to the IMPACT Zone after 13 long years. IMPACT Wrestling also saw the TNA World Heavyweight Championship retired.
“Captain Charisma” expressed his delight in being back to the company as a champion. He talked about respectfully bidding a farewell to the TNA World Heavyweight Championship he had brought along. Cage then handed the belt over to ring announcer David Penzer, who carried it to to the backstage arena. This was seemingly the last of this title that fans will see in the company. Effectively, IMPACT Wrestling retired the TNA World Heavyweight title.

Moose had brought the TNA World Heavyweight title back in April of 2020 during his assertion as the champion. Executive Scott D’Amore had reinstated it as a championship in February 2021, as he viewed it as a legitimate championship in the company. Soon, a unification match was set up between Moose and the then IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann. The latter would win both championships, before being defeated by Kenny Omega in a Winner-Take-All Match at IMPACT Rebellion. Last week’s AEW Rampage saw Christian Cage capture both the IMPACT World as well as the TNA Heavyweight Championship from Omega.
Christian Cage’s first IMPACT World Championship title defense is slated for IMPACT Emergence on Friday. It will take place against the number one contender, Brian Myers.
