Beyond Wrestling Greatest Rivals Round Robin Returns

Greatest Rivals Round Robin

When Covid hit no wrestling promotion had as much planned as Beyond Wrestling. They were running a show against WrestleMania, they were gearing up for a third season of Uncharted Territory and they were packed to the gills with exciting new talent. A year later Beyond ended up only running three shows last year and most of the talent has been scooped up by the larger wrestling companies. Fans have been excited to see what Beyond had planned for 2021. They first announced a Wrestlemania weekend show and then announced they would be bringing back two tournaments that have been part of Beyond for a while now. The first of which is the second-ever Greatest Rivals Round Robin where four competitors will face off in single matches until all four have faced each of the three other opponents. The GRRR will be broken up into Beyond’s Signature Series starting this Thursday and ending the week before WrestleMania weekend.

The first Greatest Rival Round Robin had four of the best indie talents of the day Drew Gulak, Biff Busick, Tim Thacher, and Eddie Edwards. This interaction will feature four of the best on the independents and some of the best American technical wrestlers on the indies; Chris Dickinson, Tony Deppen, Wheeler YUTA, and Matt Makowski.

Chris Dickinson

Chris Dickinson being in the second Greatest Rivals Round Robin makes perfect sense as he has been a pillar in Beyond wrestling. One of the few wrestlers that have been with Beyond since the very beginning Chris Dickinson is the undisputed Ace of Beyond. Dickinson solidified this in his world-beating run against some of the biggest and baddest the independents had to offer during the first season of Uncharted Territory. However, if you are a fan of Beyond you know good things can never last as Dickinson seems to be just a travel ban being lifted away from traveling to Japan. With Chris Dickinson’s future with Beyond in question, it will be interesting to see how he fares against some of Beyond’s ADJECTIVE wrestlers. Dickinson had previously faced Wheeler YUTA in season two of Uncharted Territory and Matt Mawoski at Beyond’s last show of 2020 Shangri-La Magistral. In both matches, Dickinson came out with the wind so it will be interesting to see how those two wrestlers change up with style to wrestle Dickinson again.

Tony Deppen

Tony Deppen came into 2021 ready to work. After wrestling in Ring of Honor against Dragon Lee at Final Battle to finish off his 2020 Deppen had a 120 minutes iron man match with Jordan Oliver, and a 60-minute iron match against Trish Adora for Beyond a few weeks back. Deppen is going to need this endurance in the Greatest Rivals Round Robin when he faces off against each of these other three competitors. Each one of these wrestlers has an interesting and somewhat similar technical style expect Deppen to have a slight advantage with all the long matches he has been wrestling.

Wheeler YUTA

Wheeler YUTA has looked right at home in the blooming PURE division in Ring of Honor. This PURE wrestling style is going to be the heart of this Greatest Rivals Round Robin series. YUTA has been about to break out huge for a while and getting to match holds with the three other wrestling could be his big break in not just Beyond but all of indie wrestling. Wheeler was trained by former GRRR competitor Drew Gulak so he might have a slight advantage in how to best take on a unique match setup.

Matt Makowski

It seems like Makowski has worked his way into a spot in Beyond Wrestling. Weapon X had a pretty good run in the Discovery Gauntlet where he defeated another man in this tournament, Tony Deppen to last two weeks in the Gauntlet. Makowski would show up at Beyond again to face Dickinson in the main event of  Shangri-La Magistral and looked right at home. These next six weeks are going to be a huge coming-out party for Matt Makowski as he really shows the independent scene what he is capable of doing in the ring.
