2020 taught us that when it comes to PPVs in IMPACT Wrestling, expect the unexpected. Well, that trend continued over into 2021 as at the IMPACT Hard to Kill PPV, Matt Cardona proved “Alwayz Ready” wasn’t just a t-shirt slogan when he debuted to take on Ace Austin.
Having recently returned to IMPACT, Austin was lamenting how a star like him could possibly be left off the card. He wasn’t going to stand for it and wanted to be added into the X-Division title match. Unfortunately, Scott D’Amore had something else in mind for Austin. D’Amore couldn’t add him to the match, but since Austin was ready to fight, he had the perfect opponent, someone who was also “alwayz ready.” Matt Cardona’s entrance music hit and he proceeded to make his IMPACT debut. While his match with Austin didn’t go far as Madman Fulton interfered to cause the DQ, Cardona got the last laugh chasing both Fulton and Austin from the ring to stand tall.
I needed tonight. Thanks @ScottDAmore for the opportunity. Thanks @IMPACTWRESTLING. Thanks to all my fans! I’m #AlwayzReady…I’m #HardToKill…and I’m NOT DONE with @The_Ace_Austin & @FultonWorld! pic.twitter.com/2oMOAbp8w4

Last seen working with the Nightmare Family at All Out in September, Cardona’s IMPACT appearance is definitely unexpected. While it was known that Cardona hasn’t signed more than a per appearance deal with AEW, it seemed likely that would be his landing place. But Matt Cardona seems like he wants to test out the waters first and arriving in IMPACT, for however long or short he stays, is definitely a great place for him. Cardona is a great addition to the IMPACT roster as well, as the company continues to find strong talent to bring on board.
In IMPACT, Matt Cardona now joins his fellow WWE tag team partner, Brian Myers. Perhaps like Heath and Rhyno, IMPACT will be home to another tag team reunion, this time for the duo formerly known as the Major Brothers. After all, Cardona has his sights set on Austin and Fulton so the need for a tag team partner could present it soon enough.
