Friday Night SmackDown returns to our screens once more. All that we have advertised for the show so far is the continuation of the Intercontinental Championship tournament. With WWE NXT and AEW both exceeding expectations in the ratings this week, SmackDown will be looking for a strong showing. With all that being said, let’s dive right in.
Intercontinental Championship Tournament Continues
As mentioned, the two matches we have announced both come within the Intercontinental Tournament. It is semi-finals week and only Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, Elias and AJ Styles remain. The first match sees Bryan take on Hardy. These two have wrestled each other twice in the past – with them having one win apiece. With this being a semi-final bout in the tournament, however, the stakes have never been higher. AJ Styles meets Elias, with these two never meeting in a one-on-one situation. The only time these two have met in the ring was at Royal Rumble 2020. Therefore, it is hard to predict who wins here. With Elias having troubles with King Corbin, however, we might expect some interference. Even so, Styles is a 20 year veteran in the game and is returning to the brand where he had his biggest WWE successes. One of the all-time greats. He has enough experience and ability to see off Elias. Could we be heading for a mouth-watering AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan final? You will have to tune in to find out.
What else to expect:
– The continuation of the Braun Strowman/Miz and John Morrison feud
– What next for Otis and Mandy Rose in their feud against Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville?
– Charlotte Flair has been appearing on all brands. Will she do so again here?
– Potential debut of Matt Riddle?
