Thunder Rosa is one of the featured stars in the National Wrestling Alliance. Not only is she among the most popular wrestlers in the company, male or female, but she is the current reigning NWA World Women’s Champion to boot. Though she debuted as a villain, the support from the NWA faithful has been nothing short of impressive. It took time for her to reach this point, though, from her humble beginnings in 2014.
Thunder Rosa made her professional wrestling debut with the California-based Supreme Pro Wrestling. There, she competed in their Halloween Costume Battle Royal. She continued her work throughout California in 2015 before making her way overseas in April of that year. During this time, she debuted for World Wonder Ring Stardom, joining the Oedo Tai stable. The stable in question featured other notable Stardom names, including Kris Wolf, Heidi Lovelace, and Kagetsu. During her time in Stardom, Thunder Rosa worked with other Stardom talent up until July.
She would soon return to the northwest, competing for promotions including Gateway Grand Prix.
The following August, Thunder Rosa received her first taste of gold when she bested Kikyo for the GGP Sapphire Championship at the promotion’s 1-year anniversary event. The same month, Thunder Rosa debuted for Gold Rush Pro Wrestling during their Lady Luck Tournament, which was ultimately won by Cheerleader Melissa. Nonetheless, Rosa met Melissa in singles action in October, winning and adding the Lady Luck Championship to her ever-growing resume.
It was also in 2015 when Thunder Rosa appeared on a pro wrestling-based TV show, Lucha Underground. She portrayed the character of Kobra Moon, the masked leader of the Reptile Tribe. As Kobra Moon, she picked up wins over the likes of Bengala and Sexy Star. She also showed interest in Daga, which would lead to title implications down the road. Nonetheless, in Lucha Underground’s second and third seasons, she made an impression.
Back on the independent scene, Thunder Rosa continued her winning ways.
In May of 2016, she won the Union Independent Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship in a five-way match. She also began regularly teaming with Holidead, forming the tag team known as The Twisted Sisters. As a unit, they saw success, even winning the Vendetta Pro Tag Team Championship at September to Remember VII. October saw Thunder Rosa return to Stardom, competing in the Goddesses of Stardom Tag League. Alongside Holidead, she finished with 4 points. Thunder Rosa would also compete for the High Speed Championship, challenging Mayu Iwatani in November.
For a time, the Vendetta Pro Tag Team Championship was re-branded as the NWA International Tag Team Championship. The Twisted Sisters dropped the rechristened title to The Ballard Brothers, Shane and Shannon Ballard, in January of 2017. Thunder Rosa continued her work across the independents, debuting for Warriors of Wrestling in June alongside Holidead. The same month, Thunder Rosa bested Shotzi Blackheart for the East Bay Pro Wrestling Ladies Championship. The following September, Thunder Rosa became the first – and so far, only – Allied Independent Wrestling Federations Women’s Champion.
Thunder Rosa would continue to gain popularity by debuting for other well-known promotions, including SHINE Wrestling in October and RISE Wrestling in November. In 2018, Thunder Rosa continued to grow her presence, debuting for Ring of Honor in June. At ROH State of the Art, she teamed with Kelly Klein in a losing effort against Tenille Dashwood and inaugural Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai. The following July, The Twisted Sisters held gold again by claiming the SHINE Tag Team Championship.
Back in Lucha Underground, Kobra Moon’s Reptile Tribe had grown considerably.
She formed a partnership with not only Daga but Jeremiah Snake and Drago. In the fourth season, Moon, Daga, and Snake bested Son of Havoc, Killshot, and The Mack for the Trios Championship. They would become the last recognized Trios Championships before Lucha Underground wrapped up. The Kobra Moon character would live on outside of Lucha Underground, however. In October, she debuted for Women of Wrestling, defeating Azteca in her debut match.
As with years prior, Thunder Rosa’s hustle remained strong in 2019. In March, The Twisted Sisters debuted for SHIMMER, where they faced such names as Hiroyo Matsumoto and DASH Chisako. The following April, Thunder Rosa debuted for Tokyo Joshi Pro, competing for the TOKYO Princess of Princess Championship the month after. During the fall, the National Wrestling Alliance started an expansion of sorts with their weekly YouTube show, NWA Powerrr. Those that followed the show in question will attest to the success Thunder Rosa has seen.
Thunder Rosa made her NWA debut in October, confronting future stablemate Marti Belle.
From there, Rosa showcased in-ring dominance over the likes of Ashley Vox and ODB. Her success was accompanied by numerous confrontations with then-NWA World Women’s Champion Allysin Kay. Additionally, Thunder Rosa formed a partnership with Belle and Melina, the latter having recently made her NWA debut. This past January, Thunder Rosa achieved perhaps her greatest success yet. At NWA Hard Times, Rosa bested Kay in a match that went over 18 minutes to become the new champion. With this win, Thunder Rosa became the first Mexican-born NWA Women’s World Champion.
An argument can be made that Thunder Rosa is the most popular star in the National Wrestling Alliance. Given the slew of talent in the organization, including Trevor Murdoch, Ricky Starks, and The Question Mark, this is immense praise. She has seen success elsewhere, too; this past January saw her best Maki Itoh for the TJP International Princess Championship. Thunder Rosa’s legitimate toughness, in-ring savvy, and face-painted presentation will help her continue her ascent in professional wrestling.
