Days removed from what is being called one of the best NXT TakeOver specials of all-time, NXT provided its now usual cool-down episode post a TakeOver show. Keith Lee featured prominently while Nikki Cross showed that her appearance on Smackdown Live a couple of weeks ago may have just been a one-off.
TakeOver WarGames
Throughout the night, exclusive footages from the TakeOver show were shown from all the matches on display.
Some post-match added content that was broadcasted included Aleister Black’s silent confrontation with Candice LeRae post-TakeOver as well as Shayna Baszler’s post-match interview with Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke after her match on the show.
Enhancement Talents
Keith Lee returned to in-ring action on NXT TV for the first time in over a month after his last bout with Kona Reeves. The Limitless One faced a potential future member of Moustache Mountain, a wrestler by the name of Fidel Bravo. Bravo, aka Hammond Edgar, has actually appeared on 205 Live this year as well.
Keith Lee made quick work of Bravo, finishing him off with a spinning jackhammer. The jobber sold very well for Lee, it has to be said.
Also on show was another poor fellow who was fed to an angry Lars Sullivan (Editor’s Note: It was Keita Murray, who also appeared on Smackdown Live as one of the Bryant Brothers). Lars started the match by running straight at the unnamed enhancement talent with him having nowhere to go against the corner. The Freak also made quick work of his opponent, hitting the Freak Accident for the 1-2-3.
However, Lars wasn’t done here as he picked up a microphone and demanded an NXT title match. It will be interesting to see if/when he gets this match, considering the vignettes for his debut on the main roster that have already started appearing.
Lars wasn’t done with the poor jobber though, going back to pick him up for another Freak Accident but out came Keith Lee to make the save, hitting a high-impact pounce on Sullivan to send him out of the ring.
Next Week
EC3 gave an interview stating how he’d be returning to NXT a “new man”, starting next week.
Also announced for next week was a clash between two behemoths, Lars Sullivan facing off against Keith Lee.
Women’s Division
The show was dominated by TakeOver flashbacks and discussions but the main event featured two staples of NXT’s women division as Nikki Cross and Candice LeRae locked horns, weeks after NXT’s Twisted Sister implicated LeRae’s husband, Johnny Gargano, in the attack on Aleister Black.
A good pace to this match with lots of high-flying from Candice LeRae, including a flying crossbody to the outside and a springboard moonsault (aka lionsault) in the ring which missed its mark. Match reached its finale after Cross got out of LeRae’s Gargano Escape submission attempt before hitting her draping neck breaker for the win.
Shades of Candice LeRae potentially following in her husband’s footsteps and turning heel in this match. A power couple of Johnny Gargano and Candice LeRae may be something to make NXT even more interesting – if that was possible.
