Toni Storm Injured, Vacates wXw Women’s Championship

Last weekend saw the second round of tapings for NXT UK, including a tournament to crown the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion. During a match against Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm went down with a back injury, and while some speculated it may have been storyline, the referee threw up the X sign to the back staff to indicate a legitimate injury had occurred that needed medical attention.

While the extent of the injury is not fully known as of yet, as a precaution, Toni Storm has been pulled from the upcoming PROGRESS tour in Germany this weekend, where she was set to compete in a fatal four way against PROGRESS Women’s Champion Jinny, Killer Kelly and “The Alpha Female” Jazzy Gabert on Friday in Hamburg. Toni Storm also missed this past Monday’s PROGRESS Chapter 75, where she was scheduled to lead Team Storm (Millie McKenzie, Laura Di Matteo & Candyfloss) against The House of  Couture (Jinny, Chakara, Charlie Morgan & Nina Samuels) in an 8-woman tag match. Instead, the match was changed to a #1 Contenders match for Jinny’s PROGRESS Women’s title, with McKenzie defeating Candyfloss, Charlie Morgan, Chakara and Laura Di Matteo instead.

But PROGRESS wasn’t the only promotion to announce Storm’s departure from this weekend’s card. As part of PROGRESS’ tour of Germany, they were double heading with Germany’s Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) with a series of shows, including this weekend’s wXw FAN event. On night one (Friday), Toni Storm was scheduled to team with Killer Kelly in a tag match against Millie McKenzie & Kris Wolf. On Saturday, she was slated to defend her wXw Women’s Championship against Jazzy Gabert. With her withdrawal from the Germany events, wXw issued a statement today that they have vacated the title and will crown a new Women’s Champion on Saturday.

wXw also announced that the tag match Storm was supposed to be involved in will now be a triple threat match between McKenzie, Wolf and Killer Kelly and the winner will move on to face Jazzy Gabert, the legitimate #1 contender, on Saturday night to crown the new wXw Women’s Champion.

At one point this year, Toni Storm held four titles simultaneously – the PROGRESS Women’s Championship, World of Stardom Championship, wXw Women’s Championship and Stardom’s SWA Undisputed World Women’s Championship. In the past few months, she lost the SWA title to Viper, the World of Stardom title to Kagetsu, and the PROGRESS belt to Jinny. The wXw Women’s title was her last belt in her possession, ending today after a 221 day reign, after defeating Killer Kelly for the championship this past January at wXw Back to the Roots XVII.
