Late last night (or early this morning in Japan), Kenny Omega added more weight to his already high stakes match against arch-rival Cody Rhodes this Saturday at the G1 Special in San Francisco. Not only will his newly acquired IWGP Heavyweight Championship be on the line when the two lock up inside the legendary Cow Palace, but Kenny is finally putting an end to a year long debate over who the true leader of Bullet Club is.

The internal rot of the Bullet Club has been going on nearly since the moment Cody arrived and joined the infamous global faction, and in the past year it’s only skyrocketed. The Japanese contingent, featuring “The Underboss” Bad Luck Fale, Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa), Chase Owens, Yujiro Takahashi and Hikuleo, have been increasingly getting irritated by the showboating antics of their more American based contingent that makes up the Being The Elite cast, including Cody, The Young Bucks, “The Villain” Marty Scurll, and Adam “Hangman” Page. Kenny Omega has been caught in the middle, trying to keep both halves together, but all the while, his authority has been challenged by Cody Rhodes.
Add in Omega’s reunion with Kota Ibushi in The Golden Lovers and the fans are just as perplexed as some of the other Bullet Club members – is Omega’s heart fully into Bullet Club or is it time for new leadership? Prince Devitt (now Finn Balor in the WWE) lead Bullet Club for 339 days, before he was replaced by AJ Styles. “The Phenomenal One” lasted significantly longer, leading them for nearly two years, at 640 days. Kenny Omega’s run as leader of the squad is closing in on a total nearly as much as the combined tenures of both men – as of their match on Saturday, Omega will have been leader of Bullet Club for 915 days.
Regardless, by the end of Saturday night, one thing will be certain. The new direction of Bullet Club will finally take shape. Either under unified control of Kenny Omega or new management with Cody Rhodes – or perhaps we’ll see interference from outside contenders and someone like Tama Tonga takes out both men so that Bullet Club can return to it’s original roots, of enforcing it’s dominance in the ring rather than it’s T-shirt sales at Hot Topic.
