Get to Know WWE NXT’s Resident New Headbanger Lizzy Rain

This week’s episode of WWE NXT was full of fresh, new faces. Among them is a heavy metal hitter for the fans to really get behind. British star Lizzy Rain, a 2025 indie standout, roared onto WWE screens like your favorite rock band. But what’s the score on NXT’s newest headbanger?

Rain was faced with the ever-present NXT veteran Nikkita Lyons in her debut. And Lizzy felt the full force of Lyons’ Roundhouse Kick more than once. But crucially, the British import managed to secure victory with a devastating kick of her own. Rain’s finisher, the Thunderstruck, left fans howling for an encore. The heavy metal reference that inspired her finisher’s name offered just a taste of what to expect from the indie star.

Lizzy Rain, WWE’s next heavy metal-inspired superstar?

Rain’s debut was as crisp and energetic as they come, exciting fans but leaving them wanting more. The heavy metal gimmick was positively received and presented a far more finished article than fans are used to with NXT debutants. Rain looked assured in her identity, and importantly, stands out from the rest of the female NXT locker room. A win over Lyons is a great way to establish the debuting star to those unfamiliar with her impressive work in the UK.

The 28-year-old has built an impressive body of work during her five years on the UK indie scene, as Rayne Leverkusen, and under the umbrella of British promotion PROGRESS Wrestling. Rain has also wrestled for Japanese promotion Sendai Girls’ Pro Wrestling, which counts Syuri, Sareee, and Hikaru Shida among its notable alumni.

Lizzy Rain’s unique apprenticeship certainly paid off. During the SummerSlam tryouts last year, WWE clearly recognized that they had a rough diamond on their hands. Rain earned MVP status at the event, which was just the beginning of her journey to the big time. 2026 had barely begun when Rain signed a deal with WWE.

Rain’s rockstar persona isn’t just for show

Plenty of WWE stars talk about lineage and the true royal families of wrestling. But Lizzy Rain has a different type of bloodline that inspires her heavy-metal approach to the squared circle. The Maiden of Metal is the niece of the late Clive Burr, the original drummer for Iron Maiden. Rain’s entrance jacket previously belonged to her uncle, bringing a piece of her rockstar ancestry to the WWE Universe.

With Jacy Jayne and Fatal Influence, Sol Ruca, and Blake Monroe all making the jump up to the main roster, NXT is calling out for someone to step enthusiastically into the void. Rain put an NXT veteran to the sword and won the WWE faithful over for the first time of asking. There are few better ways to position yourself for the success that awaits.
