One. Final. Time. One of, if not the greatest, WWE Superstar to ever grace a ring finally takes a bow in his swan song at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) XLII, live from Washington, D.C. After 23 amazing years, John Cena is stepping away for good, leaving a rich legacy and an impact unlike anyone has ever seen. Before the waterworks start, WWE Universe, let’s get this rolling. Here’s a WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event preview for December 13, 2025, the site of the final match of John Cena. Let’s run it down.
Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. NXT Champion Oba Femi
The Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is stepping into the ring against a man that is a freak of nature in the form of #AndNEW NXT Champion Oba Femi. Oba secured this opportunity at last Saturday’s NXT Deadline when he dethroned “Absolute” Ricky Saints to become a two-time NXT Champion, and earn a spot to showcase his talents against the “QB1 of WWE.”
Rhodes has been “the man” in the company over the last three years. However, Femi has been tearing through NXT ever since he surfaced on the White and Gold brand. For Femi, it could be the biggest statement he could ever make if he manages to defeat the best WWE has today.
On the other hand, Rhodes can assert his dominance and prove to everyone why he’s the man who will take WWE and carry it on his back for the next decade to come.
Who really is the most dominant champion in the WWE today?
John Cena vs. Gunther
All great things must eventually come to an end. After a historic career that saw the “Never Seen 17” achieve countless historical feats and made him the undisputed “Greatest of All-Time.” John Cena headlines Saturday Night’s Main Event in his last bout against Gunther.
Sixteen men fought extremely hard to get to this point. The finals between LA Knight and eventual winner Gunther set the tone, sending a message about how extremely prestigious it is to be the one who retires John Cena. After Gunther won, he sent a stern message to Cena at the conclusion of the December 5th, 2025 edition of SmackDown that he “told them so.”
Cena has fought a ton of monsters and came out triumphant. That said, Gunther is another beast in his own right. Gunther has had historic reigns with the Intercontinental Championship, as well as the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Gunther probably had the best two years of his career, thus far, and he may be capping off 2025 with the biggest possible cap in his feather: defeating the best to do it in his final ever matchup. However, JBL did not call Cena “Big Match John” for nothing.
While he is the old gunslinger going into this match and Gunther is the new sheriff in town, Cena has a lot more in the tank to pull off one more miracle, slay one more giant, and cap off his career on the highest note.
In what is quite possibly the greatest final match of any WWE superstar in history, John Cena battles Gunther.
Will Gunther nab the biggest win of his or any other superstar’s career? Or will John Cena do it one final time and preach “Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect?”
Let’s all find out this weekend, December 13, 2025, at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII in Washington, D.C., as we send off the “G.O.A.T.” himself into the sunset.
