The WWE Draft is an annual reset for the company, as the WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown rosters shuffle greatly. There’s ongoing speculation about the WWE Draft date for 2025.
Some people get moved between main roster brands, while others get called up from NXT. There have been some instances where some wrestlers go to NXT from the main roster for various reasons.
Whenever a draft happens, it affects everyone working in WWE. New feuds and hyped encounters signal a fresh start, which makes fans happy. Last year, the WWE Draft was held on the last weekend of April. However, if recent speculation is to be believed, the draft this year will be held on the last weekend of May. This coincides with WWE’s stay at the Yuengling Center over Memorial Day weekend with four straight days of WWE programming. The WWE Draft should happen at that time to make the weekend even more memorable for WWE and its fans.
Many superstars have benefited from moving brands as it often helps them to progress a level.
The WWE Draft Date Eases Travel
Whenever someone gets drafted to Raw or SmackDown, or gets sent to NXT, they’re not just changing brands.
They have to adjust to a completely different travel schedule. That could be very jarring, especially if someone goes from NXT to Raw or SmackDown.
However, placing the WWE Draft during Memorial Day weekend could lessen the travel whiplash. If someone is drafted from SmackDown to Raw on Friday, and they are featured on Saturday Night’s Main Event, they don’t have to pack up everything and head to the airport hours later. Raw will also be at the Yuengling Center, so they don’t have to do any travelling.
The same can be said for NXT callups. NXT Battleground will also be there, so their travel worries are nonexistent. Having the WWE Draft at that time will prevent wrestlers from potential travel problems, as everything will be at one location.
WWE Draft Weekend Fits Schedule
The WWE Draft isn’t the only opportunity for change regarding the roster.
After every PPV, especially on NXT, there are usually a lot of things that happen on the shows afterwards. With the first NXT after Battleground happening on the last show at the Yuengling Center, there’s surely going to be a lot of jaw-dropping moments.
Holding the draft during that weekend will be a natural transition for NXT. Debuts and returns will take the place of wrestlers who will be called up to the main roster. The same thing can be said about Raw and SmackDown. Having the draft two weeks before Money in the Bank will allow time for storylines to develop without rushing anything or disrupting the PLE’s build. The Raw and SmackDown after Money in the Bank would then feel like a fresh start as they prepare for WWE Night of Champions.
WWE’s Timing Couldn’t Be Better
Right now, the WWE Draft date is just speculation. Nothing’s been confirmed by WWE regarding anything about the draft. However, the timing of the date would be perfect for several reasons.
With Raw and NXT both taking place at the Yuengling Center, it would ease travel woes for many people. The wrestlers staying on SmackDown wouldn’t be affected. But if a wrestler’s going from SmackDown to Raw, or NXT to Raw, they won’t have to worry about travel since the shows are at the same arena. It also fits in perfectly with NXT Battleground and the timing of Money in the Bank.
The shows afterwards would be a fresh start, so having the draft be on that weekend would be a seamless transition between shows. If the WWE Draft is indeed taking place on Memorial Day weekend, it is a great decision all around fromWWE.
