Ever since Kevin Owens lost against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event, he has gone on a rampage against everyone in WWE. From getting physical with Triple H to invading the RAW on Netflix Kickoff, he has made his displeasure known.
By walking around with the title and calling himself a champion, Owens doesn’t care who’s in his way. In his mind, he is the rightful holder of the Undisputed WWE Championship and not Rhodes.
Some people have been cheering his actions, as Rhodes used a chair to retain his title. But there are others who are furious at his attempts to claim the victory as his own. Has Kevin Owens gone too far or is his behavior actually justified?
Owens Has a Legitimate Claim to the Title
After watching the match between him and Cody Rhodes, it is clear that Kevin Owens has a legitimate complaint. After the ref bumps and a Cross Rhodes onto a chair, there’s no denying that there’s some suspicion regarding Rhodes’ title win. Owens has been wrestling for over twenty years, so there’s no doubt he’s seen pretty much everything that can happen in the ring.
For Charles Robinson to magically pop up after Rhodes threw away the chair is fishy. Owens sees that as being cheated out of his title win, and he is allowed to think that.
Wrestlers have used cheating in many different ways to keep their titles with them, but Owens is actually doing something about it. The only way for Triple H and WWE to listen is for Kevin Owens to demand another title shot, something that can happen due to video proof that Rhodes didn’t win fairly.
Destruction and Interruption Isn’t the Answer
If you are a WWE wrestler with a complaint, you should probably talk to the general managers or Triple H. However, Kevin Owens has not followed that advice at all. Since his win, some people think that his outbursts have hurt him instead of helped him.
He pushed Triple H and used the Piledriver on Rhodes after Saturday Night’s Main Event. Not only that but he interrupted Michael Cole at the RAW on Netflix Kickoff, disrupting the show while putting unnecessary attention on himself. Not to mention, sneaking into WWE headquarters was a controversial thing to do.
Doing those sorts of things only hurt your standing in the company. If he had talked privately with WWE management, he probably would’ve gotten a rematch. Instead, Kevin Owens is resorting to childish tantrums in order to draw awareness to his complaint, which is not the right thing to do.
Kevin Owens Has Achieved His Goal
Whenever a wrestler does something noteworthy, they get press and fan reactions online. Whether you like what he’s doing or find his actions despicable, Kevin Owens is being talked about by everyone. By getting into it with WWE management and photoshopping his head on Rhodes’ body, he is getting views and eyes on him.
He’s boosting his popularity by using his loss to his advantage. If you think he has a legitimate concern, you support him disrupting the status quo. But if you think he’s acting irrationally, you boo him out of the building.
Either way, he’s getting a reaction, which is what he wanted the whole time. The only thing left to wonder about is what Kevin Owens’ story will look like moving forward. Given his actions over the past week, the next part of that story could look very interesting.
